Disaster Relief & International Development

A World of Service

“Human society is one and indivisible… Look on each and every individual as the manifestation of the Cosmic Entity.”

Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Ananda Marga social service projects range from direct relief, including food, shelter and medical care in underdeveloped or disaster struck areas, to long term projects that support local people to develop schools, medical clinics, cooperatives and other long-term soutions.

Our projects are established in 160 countries in six continents, addressing the most urgent problems facing not only humans, but also plants and animals. Following is a small sampling of some of the Ananda Marga service projects around the world:

Indonesia

Tsunami Disaster Relief
Indonesia

Immediately following the Tsunami of 2004, the Ananda Marga Univeral Relief Team was on the scene providing a range of relief projects including building shelter, food relief, working with villagers and rebuilding schools. Two years later they continue to work: building 26 schools using a unique bamboo construction method; conducting programs for children with special needs; running hygiene awareness programs, vocational training and much more.

Rurapuk Project
Lima, Peru

Whilst Lima is often hailed as an economic success story, the reality for the majority is quite different. AMURT runs three programs in Lima to help ease the burden of extreme poverty: A Hot Lunch Program for nutritionally at risk children and two sewing collectives. These sewing programs provide employment for: the hearing disabled; and a group women from a poor suburb on the outskirts of Lima. The members of the collective receive fare wages and profits are reinvested back into the projects.

Abha Light Clinic
Nairobi, Kenya

In Kenya, poverty, overcrowding and lack of sanitation have created a health crisis. Founded in 1988, the Abha Light Foundation specialises in using homeopathic medicine to treat over 3,000 patients each year through its health centres and mobile clinics. The Centre also offers a number of programs for HIV patients, including a range of treatments, testing, counselling and community outreach programs. It also provides home-based health care programs, food distribution and homeopathic training, including the newly founded Abha Light College, which offers degrees in alternative medicine.
